Raymond Matthew McNeil, 1951-2024

New Waterford/Glace Bay, N.S.

We the family regret to announce the passing of Ray McNeil on December 4, 2024, in the Glace Bay General Hospital.

Ray was born January 26, 1951, in New Waterford, N.S., to the late Michael “Mick” McNeil (1976) and Margaret White (2004).

Ray is survived by his long-time companion Edna Gay, his loving son Adrian (Kate) McNeil, the mother of his sons Theresa, grandchildren Bailey, Eric, David, Jared, Noel, Brianna and MacKenzie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Ray was predeceased by his brother Robert (2023) and a son Bernard (2005).

After graduating from St. Agnes High School, Ray joined the Armed Forces and travelled across Canada; after leaving the military, Ray became an Engineer for Atomic Energy. He then moved back to Cape Breton and settled in Glace Bay where he became a long-time Hospital Courier, and an avid walker at the airport with his four-legged friends. Some of his favorite things to do was reading, puzzles, and stamp collecting. Ray would always be found talking to anybody that would be willing to listen; he always had a good story or a funny joke to be told.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 2 p.m., with Fr. MacLeen presiding in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199.

Ray will be laid to rest with his parents in St. Agnes Cemetery in New Waterford following the service.
