Obituary of Faye Marie Courtney
Please share a memory of Faye to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Faye was the daughter of Alfreda (D'angio) and Louis Coburn born in Alliston Ontario.
She was pre-deceased by her infant brother Carl who lived only a day.
Her parents were finally over joyed to have a daughter after many years of trying to have a child. Her Mother described her as pretty as a picture.
Faye grew up in Beeton Ontario surrounded by many Aunts and Uncles and cousins.
She grew up in a musical family. Her father Louie loved to play the steel guitar and her Mother Freda played the piano, her brother Steve was known to be as she put it a natural excellent drum player who never took a lesson.
Faye married my father, Allen MacNeil in 1966 from Nova Scotia who fittingly is also musical and loved to play the guitar and sing with her Father Louie. Most weekends were enjoyable jam sessions and they were married for 25 years and continued to have a great caring relationship later in years and was cared for by Allen and Karen Alberts after she had a pace maker in April.
Faye was a fiercely loyal and protective mother to Lorrie Anne and Kevin Allen McNeil.
Faye and her mother Freda had a very close bond as she did with her daughter Lorrie who she lived with most of her life.
Faye worked at Melville Lodge for over 20 years and lovingly looked after the elderly residents going to flea markets buying necklaces that she would give to the ladies at Melville Lodge.
Faye then married her Love of the last 26 years, married for 24 of them to Byron William Courtney. They enjoyed RVing around the province, meeting their friends at McDonalds for coffee.
Byron was a good husband to Faye and they enjoyed many great years together.
Faye was well read, an avid reader of books and she could read a book in a day.
She was known as the best spaghetti maker most likely a trait she inherited from her Italian Grand Father Luigi D'angio and her grandmother Florence Emily Tatum from England.
Faye loved talking on the phone with her best friend Margie who she worked with for many years at Melville Lodge. She loved knitting and Elvis.
Faye's health had been declining the past few years and was very private about her health struggles with her family it was painful to watch and she did not want to upset us.
The past month she fought for her life at the VG and was surrounded by her family and friends. She enjoyed the Chinese food Kevin and Careen brought her and visits from Nancy.
Faye also had a very close bond with her cousin Larry Coleman who was more like a brother to her. She looked forward to a visit in December from Larry's oldest son Darren Coleman who made calls to Faye in the hospital. He will visit with the family now in December.
The family spent summers at Musselman's beach in Ontario with Larry and Judy and Darren and Garth before moving to Nova Scotia in 1977.
Her grandmother made her first plane voyage to visit Faye in Nova Scotia, Her Grandmother came to Canada from England by boat with orphans from the war.
Faye's relatives from Ontario visited her as well over the years, including Auntie Irene, Auntie Mary, Larry, Garth and Mrs Jane McCormick her elderly bingo friend from Ontario who she had a close bond with that lived across the street from her on Eileen Avenue.
Faye loved her Grandchildren Jordan (Chelsie) and Jacob (Baleigh) and Camryn and her great-grandchildren Carter, Teagan, Hayden, Wyatt and Brynnlee.
The family would like to thank the VG staff at 8A, my father, Allen MacNeil and her brother Steve and Darren Brenton for being by her side in the middle of the night to support Lorrie and Byron in their time of need. Your commitment to Faye was unwavering.
A special Thank you to Darren Brenton (Lorrie) for all the meals, flowers, love and support he gave to her and Byron and Lorrie the past 2 years. I don't think we could have done it without you.
To my friends Ella and Tina and Kim for always being there when I needed you. Ella you made my Mom always feel special with your thoughtful gifts and Tina for your constant delivery of books to her. Kimmy for your constant support and messages.
My cousins Angie and Sissy who were like sisters growing up and always at the house, I know Mom and Dad thought of you like their other kids.
Thank you to our neighbours Linda and Mike for always bringing meals to Faye and Byron and for the beautiful quilt, she loved it.
I know my mother stayed as long as she could so very loyal and honest. We will all miss her so much, she truly was a great woman and I can't imagine life without her, she was always there for me.
We Love you my Faye Faye. Life will never be the same without you, you were my Rock. I was truly blessed with the Best Grandmother Freda and Mother Faye. Lorrie and Kevin were never left with a babysitter, She was truly a Saint.
There is NO Service at Faye's request, the family will have a private service at a later date when a family member visits from Ontario later in December.
Her ashes will stay with her husband Byron in her favourite place and some with her daughter Lorrie.
Some of her ashes will be taken by my father Allen MacNeil to Ontario and be buried with her parents Freda and Louie and the rest of her family at the Beeton Cemetery in Ontario.
