Garfield Alan Matheson, 71
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with deep heartache that we the family of Garfield (Gary) Alan Matheson, 71, of Glace Bay, announce his sudden passing on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Nova Scotia Power, Lingan. Born in Dominion, Gary was the son of the late Daniel and Viola Matheson.
Gary was a very thoughtful and generous person who loved playing his PlayStation, listening to music, reading, having family Barbecue’s, bonfires, camping with family, and spending time at the Big Reef in Dominion swimming. He also enjoyed cooking, and his Macaroni was legendary and was offered to whomever walked through the door. Gary was active in sports, enjoying hockey and baseball in his younger years, and was a part of scouts for many years. His favourite hockey team was the Boston Bruins, collecting anything from hats to jerseys, and anything in between.
Gary worked many jobs throughout his life; spending three years as a janitor at Central School in Dominion, he worked for Kennedy Paving for 23 years as a machine operator, and most recently at Nova Scotia Power as a Utility Coal Operator.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Linda Matheson (Eveleigh) of 43 years; two daughters: Melanie and Sheri (Edward); three brothers: Earl (Sandra), Brian (Mary Paula), and Neil (Bev); three sisters: Angie, Lois (Late Stephen), and Sheila; three grandchildren: Jocelyn, Aiden, and Noah; two great-grandchildren: Daxton and Isabella; sisters-in-law: Patsy (Brian) and Shelley (Cletus); brothers-in-law: Johnny (Linda) and Bill.
Along with his parents, Gary was predeceased by a sister Verna, and a brother DanJay.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 12-2 p.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate presiding, all in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton SPCA., or a charity of one’s choice.
Our family would like to thank Nova Scotia Power for their compassion, kindness, and generosity during this most difficult time.
