Obituary of Robert William Ranson
With broken hearts, we, the loving family, announce the passing of Robert William Ranson, fondly known as Bobby and to those closest to him, Crumbs. Bobby, born on November 3, 1941, was the son of Robert Bertley Ranson and Mary Jane Ranson (Young).
Bobby’s love for his family was immeasurable. He was a devoted father to his two daughters, a deeply loved son, a loving husband to Marilyn for fifty-nine years, a valued brother, and a treasured friend. His passing on October 20, 2024, at home, surrounded by his three girls, was a testament to the bond he shared with them.
Bobby’s little family was the most important thing to him. He was a force of nature, remarkably caring and fun-loving. He was a person of great humour and loved in equal measure. He believed in his children and grandchildren and was incredibly proud to be their father and Grampy. His love and passion for food, music, and long drives all over Cape Breton Island were a reflection of his love for his family.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Ranson, and his daughters, Lisa Oakley (Troy) and Reann Arsenault (Arthur). His treasured grandchildren are Brittany Oakley (Matt), Logan Oakley (Victoria), Quinn Arsenault, and Gavin Arsenault. Bobby is also survived by his siblings, Nina Nicholson, Mabel Gould (Wes), Molly Whalen (Robert), and Danny McDonald. Bobby is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Brenda Flint (Eric), Ingrid Shannon (John), and Pauline MacDonald, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Bobby was predeceased by his son, Robert Wayne Ranson, who passed in infancy; his parents, Robert and Molly Ranson; siblings, Murray, Bertley, Frances, flora, Tina and Marilyn, and his lifelong friend who was like his brother, Shelly Pearson.
The family would like to thank the fantastic doctors, nurses of Palliative Care, the VON, and the EHS who helped care for Bobby. A special thank you to his nurse, Leah Burns, who was a constant light and comfort to Bobby and his family. We would also like to thank friends, neighbours, and co-workers who phoned, sent food, and offered their condolences. Your thoughts and generosity are greatly appreciated.
To honour Bobby’s wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral service. I invite you to please celebrate Bobby’s memory privately in your own ways. I know that he will be with us all in spirit.
Donations in Bobby’s memory may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175.
