One of my fondest memories was a trip back to the hub in the early 60's with my parents, when I was 10 or 11 years old. Mary and Aussie would host a regular poker game and I never realized how good a poker player my Mother was! I can still smell the sweet aroma of Mary's homemade bread in the oven.
In my early twenties I went back with a friend for a holiday and stayed a few days with Mary and Aussie again and also with the Tracey's up the street. To this day I remember it as a warm, friendly place to lay your head.
We also remember when Aussie and his hockey team came to Kitchener. He was in his early 80s at the time and pretty easy to pick him out of the line-up as he strolled up and down the right wing. I'm pretty sure he was the oldest and slowest guy on the ice, but what an inspiration!
To have the resilience and stamina and desire to remain so active and positive is surely his legacy and a lesson for all of us.

I was so sorry to hear about Austin’s passing, but I am also grateful for his long life & that he has been reunited with his beloved Mary. They don’t make’em like Austin anymore. What a gentleman he was. Kind & generous to everyone. He was always so good to me and my family. Just a true high quality person. We will all miss him dearly. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire McCormick family. Thinking of you all. Love Jodi (Lewis), Kirk, Noah, & Isaac Bradbury

Growing up with my Grandfather Gerald Briggs, I heard many stories of the coal mines back home. I was often inspired by the dedication and length these men went to at such a young age to support their families. It's admirable. Austin was no different. With quite an accomplished life of 100 years old, I hope he continues to dance forever with his love. May his eternity beyond his earthly presence be peaceful. Thank you for being part of the stories told in my home. We're truly sorry to hear of his passing.

I had the pleasure of working in #26 with AB and years later playing under him as a player on the Devco team he coached. He was fair to all the players and was a great guy. My condolences to all his family and friends. May his memory be a blessing to us all. Rapped Up AB.
