Obituary of Tony Dawson

It is with crushed hearts that we, the family of Tony Dawson, age 63, announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on October 13th, 2024, after a brief illness. Born and raised in Sydney, Tony was the youngest child of the late John and Pearl (Blanchard) Dawson. Tony was a long-time employee of Cape Breton Beverages and then followed his passion as a truck driver working for various companies in Alberta and Nova Scotia. Tony was happiest surrounded by family and friends. His quick wit and endless antics brought laughter to so many and will be sadly missed by all. His selflessness and generosity knew no bounds as he was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Tony is survived by his wife, Margie (Ranni) of almost 18 years, son Anthony (Tony), brother Harold “Hylo” (Kim), sister Thelma (Doug) Libbus, grandchildren Lexi, Logan and Parker whom he was fondly known as “Grumpy”, and Mother-in-law Marie Ranni. Tony is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and his life-long friend Al (Penny) MacNeil. The family would like to thank his family physician Dr. Steve MacDougall, the medical staff at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, in particular Dr. Hebb, Dr. Wong, Dr. Lablokov and the wonderful nurses of IMCU and ICU who worked so tirelessly caring for Tony. In keeping with Tony’s wishes, we will be having a casual Celebration of Life on Saturday November 2nd, 2024, from 2-5 pm at the Ukrainian Hall (downstairs). Please use the side door entrance facing Swan St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Cape Breton or Cape Breton SPCA. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS< 902-539-7175. Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
