Shirley Bernice Kyte Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice Kyte, 65, of Sydney, on October 15, 2024, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by family.

Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John and Shirley (Miller) MacArthur.

Bernice worked for many years in customer service and loved talking with and helping her customers each day. She enjoyed being at home and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who meant everything to her.


Bernice is survived by her husband, Jim Kyte, of 45 years; daughters, Tara (Dwayne) Cross, and Whitney (Billy) Gillis; grandchildren, Nicole, Brayden, Tyler, and Daxton; sisters, Brenda (Alvin) Martell, Charlene (Darin Cross) Chase, Joan (Donnie) Debison; brother, John (Jill) MacArthur, and many cousins including Vera Urquart, who was like a sister to Bernice, along with several nieces and nephews.


Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19, from 11 – 1 pm, followed by funeral service in the Chapel at 1 pm, Fr. Evo Dipierro officiating. A reception will follow. Interment will be held on Monday, October 21, in Resurrection Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.


We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Cancer Center and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care they gave to Bernice.
