Obituary of Norman George Matheson

The family of Norman Matheson, 92, of Big Bras d'Or, are sad to announce his passing on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines. Born in Baddeck, NS, Norman was the son of the late Angus and Catherine (MacLeod) Matheson. Norman was known for his quick wit and unique one-liners. He enjoyed his retirement years sitting in his screened tent with his wife, Eileen, watching nature and their dog, Hobo. He was an avid car lover and could usually be found cleaning or doing maintenance on them. He loved company stopping by and always had many stories to tell. Norman worked his whole life in construction as a heavy equipment operator, working his last years before retirement as a snowplow operator. He was a proud member of the Operator Engineers Union. Norman is survived by his children; Anne (Jamie) MacDonald, Wayne (Patrice), George, and his special girl, Norma Jean; stepchildren, Diane (Bernie) Ley, Sally (Wayne) Ford, Linda (Billy) Blinkhorn, Susan (Freddie) Ford, Timmy (Denise) Bushell, Kathy (Gerry) Bradbury, Laurie (Bruce) Boutilier, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Eileen, brother, Howard, Little Narrows, sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Omar Briand, Montreal. The family would like to thank the staff of Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, and Glace Bay Hospital, 4 North, for their wonderful care. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. There will be a graveside funeral for family and friends on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 2 pm at Little Narrows Presbyterian Cemetery.
