I have worked along side Debbie for many years at the Sydney city Hospital. I loved working with her. She had a quiet professional soft approach with her patients and fellow colleagues. She left nothing unattended whether it was her gift of listening and understanding people or a nursing task that was exceptionally done. We had many laughs together as she had perfect timing for every moment and a way of bringing out the best in me.
Later on in our career we separated into different nursing paths. My mother in law was a guest waiting for long term care on 3B at CB Regional. She would await for "Debbie" to return from her days off...My mother in law would actually cry when she wasn't on duty. I soon found out that it was sweet Debbie Gilbert. We were blessed to have her there as I am blessed to have had the opportunity to be her nurse friend.
Peace and love to her family and may time and memories help in your tremendous loss.

My condolences to the family and friends of Debbie. Her life summary missed the period of time that she lived in Bridgeport, post NB, and prior to the move to Reserve Mines. She is well remembered by a number of us who attended Bridgeport school, which she left in grade 6 or 7. Her uncle Jimmy (barber and respected war veteran) and aunt Rachel the store owner were well established parts of the community. So she's very much remembered as an ex-pat. A few of us exchanged memories after hearing of her death. Her and Donna were noted for their double-dutch skills, which they made look easy and graceful. I'm 6'1", but I remember her as slim and notably taller than me. At the time, I was learning to dance, trying to waltz or two-step. Despite being older she was game to try at the school dance, than at a birthday party. I have this sharp memory of her finally saying "No more, you're too clumsy. Practice some more." , which I couldn't deny. I appreciated her willingness to try. A particular person said she was a solid friend that she missed dearly upon her move. She left great memories with me, my sister and other friends in the immediate area. Memories that linger these 50+ years. She will be remembered.

Derrick and family, please accept our deepest condolences on this tragic and sudden loss. Debbie was a beautiful person both inside and out and although she presented as a quiet, mild thoughtful personality we all knew she was the boss, the glue that held everyone and everything together. I remember the earlier days when we would all socialize together at dances, weddings or just a chance meeting on the sidewalk or in the mall. It was always very enjoyable, and we would talk and laugh for the longest of times. Some of our most memorial moments is when we would get together to just hang out at your first apartment in Sydney and spend the time just talking and laughing, the best of times. Dick I cannot imagine the pain and loss you and your family are feeling at this moment however I am positive that you can take great comfort in the fact of the beautiful relationship and life you had shared with Debbie. You both were always there for each other and have created a beautiful family together as you journeyed through life. Words cannot express the sadness we all feel for you however your support system, your family, brothers and sisters as well as your vast network of friends will always be there to help and lift you up at any time you are feeling low. Again, please remember our thoughts and prayers will always be with you and your family,

I remember Debbie as the "older sister who protected" her younger siblings. I remember that she was always kind and never spoke an angry word. I love the MacDonald family that we LeBlanc's grew up with - they are choice. Growing up on then Mack Road, later Neville Street, was a blessing because we had so many our age around us, and it was wonderful to grow up in that time with those people. My heart is breaking for all of you - she was taken much too soon. Please know you are in my prayers for comfort and healing at this time. May the Good Lord wrap you in his ever loving arms as Debbie is now reunited with your Mom and Dad.

Dick, Kyle & Kurt - please accept my condolences. I have so many fond memories of making train trips to Reserve with Nannie Ullock to visit for a few weeks in the summer. At that time in our lives (60s), Debbie loved to do hairstyles and I was her willing client. We'd spend hours in her room as she did her beautiful handiwork on my hair, loving every minute. We'dDebbie, Donna and I troll the field for blueberries and the ditches for pop bottles, then make a trip to the store for a bag of penny candy. Wonderful memories also of family reunion campouts at the Enclosure in Newcastle, where we cousins would sit around the campfire and our cousin David would play theme songs he'd recorded from tv shows and we'd try to guess the show - then we'd try to scare the willies out of one another telling ghost stories. Though miles have kept us apart these many years Debbie has always held and will continue to hold a special place in my heart. I hope the sharing of memories brings you and your family comfort and a smile and shows you just how far and wide Debbie's kindness reached. With Love, Pamela H
