Obituary of John Francis Bennett

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John F. Bennett, Insurance Adjuster, Late of Halifax John Francis Bennett, age 79 of Halifax, passed peacefully on September 18, 2024, at Parkstone Enhanced Care. Born in Halifax just two weeks after WW2 ended in August 1945, to John & Margaret Bennett, his zest for life and friends was influenced by the optimism that abounded thereafter. He worked as an Insurance Adjuster for over half a century before retiring. His loving wife of 51 years, Diane Marie (nee: Lake), also worked as a most excellent Legal Assistant (Stewart MacKeen & Covert/Stewart McKelvey), and later in Insurance with John. They were inseparable best friends with affable laughs and good humour that was infectious. They both will be missed by their long-time friends and colleagues in the Nova Scotia Pond of the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose, International, a fraternal organization of men and women who work in the insurance industry and related businesses. The precepts of the Order, which they embraced and lived by, are the promotion of Charity, Good Fellowship and Acts of Benevolence, including helping with the Special Olympics Society of Nova Scotia and the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank. Sadly, Diane predeceased John on November 10, 2019, and he missed her dearly, as did their long-standing mutual friends, especially the ‘regular crew’ at the Red Fox ‘Social Club’ in Fairview. By request, cremation has taken place, and the graveside committal service has been entrusted to the care of T. J. Tracey Cremation & Burial Specialists, will take place in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 11 am (Section 1, Plot M, Grave 154A). Fittingly, with Diane, next to his beloved parents. In lieu of Flowers, a toast to them and their good works would be appreciated. They both lived and believed that life’s purpose is: “To Act Justly, Love Kindness, and to Walk Humbly with God” (Micah 6:8)
