Wendell Stephen MacKinnon (Stevie), 66
Gardiner Mines, N.S.
Wendell Stephen MacKinnon (Stevie), age 66, of Gardiner Mines, Cape Breton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. After two long years of suffering, he has left this world free from pain.
Born July 9, 1958, in Glace Bay to William and Ellen MacKinnon, Stevie was a proud Cape Bretoner with a kind heart, quick wit, infectious laugh, and a strong sense of community. He loved whittling wood, hunting, learning Gaelic, reading and writing. His joy for life was matched by his love for family, friends, storytelling (the best stories), and, of course, having a good time with those he loved.
Stevie was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. He cherished his family and friends, keeping close ties with those he loved through the years. His last weeks were filled with visits and shared memories, and his strength, humour, and resilience during his illness were truly inspiring.
He is survived by his daughter Tiffany MacKinnon, brothers Daniel (Brenda) MacKinnon, Arthur (Susie) MacKinnon, grandchildren Tiana, Brooklyn, Shoncy, Alayah, Elizabeth, stepchildren Tara Adamson and Scott Connolly, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife (separated) Lillian MacKinnon, and the mother of his child Cathleen MacKinnon.
Stevie was predeceased by his parents, Billy and Ellen MacKinnon, and his brother David (Cathy) MacKinnon.
Stevie leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and community that will be cherished by all who knew him.
