Obituary of Muriel Alberta Druhan
Please share a memory of Muriel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Muriel Alberta Druhan passed away peacefully at her home in Mt. Uniacke on September 1, 2024, at the age of 103, just 20 days before her 104th birthday.
She is survived by her son: Michael (Ursula), grandson: Spencer, her nieces: Elizabeth Phillips and Cherie Kennedy, her 5 grand nieces and nephews and her 8 great nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Gerald Joseph; her sister, Ruth Kennedy and her brother-in-law, William Kennedy.
Muriel was born on September 21, 1920 to Gladwin and Nettie Joudrey in Halifax, N S. Muriel and her sister, Ruth, grew up at the time of the Great Depression, which meant rations, food stamps and homemade clothes made by her mother from remnants.
At the age of 22, Muriel felt the call to join the war efforts by serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force (overseas) in Newfoundland during WW II. Later in her life, she became an active member of the Mt. Uniacke Legion, where she enjoyed visiting the local school on Remembrance Day to share her experiences with the students.
Muriel met Gerry during her time in the RCAF. They were married on July 27, 1944 in Halifax and later settled there to raise their son, Michael.
Muriel worked at Sears, retiring in 1984 after close to 20 years. After her retirement, she decided to move to Mt. Uniacke, to live near her sister on West Lake. Later, she moved from the lake and into Parkview Manor in Mt. Uniacke.
The special thing about Muriel was that she could make friends easily wherever she was, and her friends were very important to her. She was always quick to smile, enjoyed a good laugh and a story. (even a story about her and there are a few good ones)
Muriel also had another side. She never shied away from expressing her opinions, nor saying what was on her mind. She loved playing bingo, watching games shows while knitting, going shopping and especially enjoyed visits from family and friends and their pets. She always looked her best, with her hair just so, face makeup on and earrings in place.
Muriel will be dearly missed by her family and her friends. We know she would want to express her deep appreciation to her friends and care-workers for all their kindness, especially over the last few months. We want to express our sincere gratitude to the DVA for all their assistance in helping Muriel stay in her home, where she felt happy and contented.
There will be no funeral service as per her request. A graveyard committal will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
