Obituary of Jeannine Valda DeYoung

Jeannine Valda DeYoung (Lind), 72, unexpectedly passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024. Jeannine was the second youngest of four children of Ralph and Rose Lind (Sydney), born on January 17, 1952. She married her best friend in 1973, surrounded by family and friends and then moved to Ontario to start and raise her family. A loving mother to two children and grandmother of two, she lived her life for them. After fulfilling the duties of raising a family, she and her husband were able to retire and move back home to Cape Breton where they were able to enjoy eight beautiful years creating more memories together. Jeannine was a member of the 55 plus senior’s club in Membertou. She loved her baseball and the Toronto Blue Jays; they were always on her TV. She loved the ocean, being outdoors and her family. She loved playing darts and cards. She is survived by her children, Melanie DeYoung (Charlie Hill) and William DeYoung; sisters, Cheryl Donovan (Micheal and Karen Loo), Mary Yaulene Lind (Tanya Radkey and Cheryl) and Sheila Lind; grandchildren, Mikel and Emily Hill; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Melvin. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-529-7175. A Celebration of Life will take place at the funeral home on Monday, September 9, from 1 – 3 pm with burial in Membertou Gardens.
