Obituary of Verne Marie Hillman

We the family regretfully announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Verne Marie Hillman (Hayes). Mom, 93, passed peacefully on August 28, 2024, in Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Verne was the daughter of the late Augustus and Alice Hayes. Mom will be forever missed by her son, David (Alicia), Amy, Blaise and Adam; daughter Rita (Hugh), Stephen, Shauna, Kimberly; daughter and caregiver, Holly and her son, Jamie Hillman. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Patrick, Jim, Tom and Gus; sisters, Loretta, Mary, Rita and Delores. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was also predeceased by her husband, Eddie, infant son Stephen, son, Barry, and daughter, Boni. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. There will be no visitation, burial service will take place at a later date.
