It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Walter Michalik of Glace Bay,age 82. Walter passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024, at the Glace Bay Hospital with his daughter, Janet by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, Walter was the son of the late Stanislaus and Angela (Szweda) Michalik.
Over the years Walter was employed at #26 colliery, Highland Fisheries and later on with the town of Glace Bay.
Walter believed in the power of prayer; he had a strong will to live. Walter was a quiet and kind man, who enjoyed going for walks, taking his daily drives, and being in the company of family.
Walter is survived by his daughters Janet at home; and Juanita (Paul) Halifax. He is also survived by his sisters Angela, Martha, and Mary; as well as several nieces, nephews; and sisters and brother-in-law.
Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his wife Anne; brother Stan; sister, Sophie Jones.
Thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at the Glace Bay Hospital; special thank you to Dr. Cadegan and Dr. Asim for the care provided to Walter over the years, to Dr. Uzoh and to VON for their care and kindness.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 from 10 to 11 a.m. with a memorial mass at 11: 00 a.m. all taking place at Holy Cross Church, Seaview St., with Father Norman MacPhee presiding. Burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
