Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Ann McGuire (White) Dominion, N.S. It is with great sadness, we say goodbye to Barbara Ann McGuire (White) of Dominion, N.S., on August 21, 2024, in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born in Birkenhead, England, on March 13, 1934, to William and Phyllis White. She is survived by her loving and devoted children, George (Heather), Maureen (Peter), Felicity Ann (Art), Barbara (Stephen) and Heather (Brian); grandchildren, Brandon, Kenzie (Alex), John William (Amanda), John Michael, Sarah (Darrell), Lauren (Zavin), Colin (Haley), Mason (Autumn), Siobhan and Rhys, and her great grandchildren, Cameron, Chase, Vada, Jude, Rian, and Iris. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, John Brady McGuire, her parents William and Phyllis, and her sister in infancy. In her youth, she enjoyed playing the piano and singing. She could be heard throughout the day, filling the house with her beautiful music. She and our dad possessed a harmonious sound that warmed not only our hearts, but those around them. We will always remember her lovely voice. Barbara moved from England to Scotland and immigrated to Toronto, ON to start a new life in 1967 with John and her four children where she later gave birth to her last daughter. She worked in Toronto for several years, and then moved to Dominion, NS, in 1974 to raise her family. Barbara was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was a compassionate generous lady who would never turn a person in need away. Her cooking skills were like no other in her ability to make something out of nothing that was delicious and grand. In the community, she loved to watch the children play baseball and would purchase as many tickets as she could to support the initiatives within the town. She enjoyed bowling, darts, cribbage, dammit and if you found her at time with tears rolling down her face giggling, you could guarantee she was watching a slapstick show. Barbara’s grandchildren remember her as a soft-spoken, kind, witty grandmother who could tell grand stories of her past. She cherished every moment she had with them when they came to visit. The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the angels that came into her life: Jeannette Beaton-Saccary. Cathy Donovan, Francine Little and Darlene O’Keefe. You gave our mum love, laughter, friendship, and compassionate care in her last year at home. Our family will forever be grateful for your generosity and love you have shown, not only to our mum, but to the entire family. We would also like to thank Mary Anita McCormick, Coordinator for Continuing Care, who supported our mum’s journey. A warm thank you to the palliative care doctors, nurses and VON that provided responsive care to our mum. A celebration of life will be held at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Father MacLeen presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory can be made to the Dominion Hawks Club or St. Eugene’s Cemetery. You taught us how to love, to care, to live. And so you are a part of everything we do.
