Eunice Frances O'Neill
Dartmouth/ Glace Bay
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Eunice Frances O’Neill, on August 9, 2024, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Born on November 26, 1929, Eunice was the daughter of Joseph and Mildred McNeil of McDonald’s Lane, Glace Bay.
As a student at St Anne’s School, Eunice took part in many activities and maintained an active lifestyle throughout her years. Her school basketball team won a provincial title, (height didn’t matter then) she swam at South Street Beach and skated at the Forum. School dances were not to be missed and she and our dad never tired of dancing Saturday nights away, sometimes at the Silver Rail, but most often at the Legion in # 11 in later years.
Eunice was a long-time employee of Sears Canada on Commercial Street. Our Mom spent 25 years with the company before her retirement. Before and after retirement Mom continued to be active in the community. Her love of playing cards showed in her weekly “card club” nights. We believe her card club was active for about 50 years! Eunice also loved to travel and spent many hours enjoying the sun and sand in the south and had one memorable trip to Paris.
Eunice is survived by one son, Eric, Dartmouth, NS (Tanya nee: Parsons); one daughter, Rosemary (Terry) Hollett, Winnipeg, MB; grandchildren Erica, Adam, Jarrod and Devon;
great grandchildren Malachi, Hunter, Quinn, Casey, Weston, Sophie, Cooper and Stella. She is also survived by one sister, Delores, of Florida as well as several nieces and nephews.
Eunice was predeceased by her husband, Hector; her son, Dwight; siblings John, Roddy, Haley, Gertie, Elaine and Freddy.
Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2024 in St Anne’s Church, Main St., Glace Bay. Interment to follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wallace Rd. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS
