Obituary of Margaret Clairmont

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CLAIRMONT, Margaret – age 78, of Bedford died on December 5, 2017 in palliative care at the VG. She had been diagnosed as having lung cancer 18 months earlier. Marg was predeceased by parents, Ernie and Helen Lowes. She leaves behind in much grievance husband, Don; daughter, Lynda (Michael); sons, Tom (Bernadette) and Paul; and grandsons, Pablo, Callum, Geronimo and Miguel. Marg and Don were married 59 years ago in Hamilton, Ontario and have lived happily in Bedford for the past 48 years. Marg was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, focused on the family and the household to which she was wholeheartedly committed and sacrificed much. She was a cheerful, sensitive person with strongly held values such as social equality, support for the marginal and the underdogs and doing unto others as you would have them do to you. She was very active as a volunteer in the community, coordinating sport programs (hockey and baseball) in Bedford with her close buddy Pearl McKenzie, teaching crafts to special needs children, volunteering always as well for various short term projects and serving on the Bedford Recreation Commission. She was gregarious, generous to charities, welcoming to all and, not surprisingly, well-known and popular. Many people may recall her regular early morning walks along the Bedford Highway. Her main friendship groupings included women in Dartmouth (“the skating Dartmouth girls”), social bridge and luncheon friends in Bedford, and a set of long-time friends in Hamilton and Toronto. She led a good, socially positive life and rightly considered that to be her footprint on earth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Marg’s name to Feed Nova Scotia. A mass will be held for Marg at Saint Ignatius Church, Bedford at 11am on Saturday, December 16th, immediately followed by a gathering in the Church Hall.
