Obituary of Theresa Geraldine O'Brien

Theresa Geraldine O’Brien, 79 Glace Bay, N.S. It is with a broken heart that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Theresa Geraldine O’Brien, surrounded by her loving family, on August 2, 2024, in New Waterford Hospital, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Predecease by her husband Ernest O’Brien, son in infancy Lawrence, Father Harold Proctor, Mother Mary (Murray) Proctor; sisters: Donna, Rose, Mary June; brothers: David, Alfred, Francis (Pete), Joey, and Mike. Theresa is survived and will be deeply missed by a son Ernest (Jolene), Glace Bay, a daughter Mary (Marcelo), Ontario; sisters Marjorie (Joe) and Liz, and a brother James; grandchildren Ryan, Tyler, Julian, Kirk, Dillon, Danielle; great-grandchildren Pearle, Kayla, Parker and Hudson; as well as many nieces and nephews; and her longtime and closest friend, Joanne MacLeod. Many of you may know mom from her 32 years at the Highland Fish Plant, or her involvement in community leisure activities like Darts, Broomball, Bingo, and as a pitcher for the Ladies Slow Pitch Baseball League, but anyone who knew her, knew her to always be the first to offer a helping hand when needed, even if it was simply a cup of tea and an ear to listen. Theresa had a sense of humor that most would envy, a smile and a laugh that would brighten the darkest of days, but most of all, she was fierce in the way she loved and cherished her family. Special thank you to the nurses and doctors in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, New Waterford Homecare, VON, and Palliative Care for all the care you gave in helping our mom. “Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.” In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of one’s choice. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 11 a.m., with Fr. McLeen presiding, all in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. Interment will follow Funeral Service in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
