Obituary of Annette Phillips
It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Annette Phillips on July 31, 2024, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born on February 25,1952, to the late David and Monica Lahey, she grew up in Main-A-Dieu with a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. She started working at the age of 16, and soon began working at the Main-A-Dieu Credit Union. She became manager and worked there until her retirement after 30+ years.
She met her soulmate and best friend, Ron, in Louisbourg and they married in August, 1971. They had two children. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, CWL, Choir, and children’s choir director. She was also on the Board of Directors of the credit union and of the Main-A-Dieu Community Center. Annette and Ron moved to Sydney in 2015 and enjoyed doing everything together. Where you saw one, you saw the other. They enjoyed their trips to visit with their children and grandchildren. Always ready to help their kids out at the drop of a hat, a true example of loving parents.
We will not remember her battle with dementia, instead we choose to remember and honor how she lived. Her unwavering love for her family was remarkable. She would always cater to everyone’s needs. The laughter in our home was abundant, a lot of times at Mom’s expense. The best nanny, cheerleader, and prayer warrior to her beautiful grandchildren. The way she would make up silly songs just to see them smile was heartwarming. Music would always be playing, or we would be singing. Listening to cassette tapes of Mom singing brings a sense of comfort. The strength she showed all of us will carry us through this incredible loss.
Left to grieve are her loving husband of almost 53 years, Ron; son, Scott (Nancy); daughter, Cheryl (Jamie); grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle), Julia, Josie, Isabella, Matthew, and great-granddaughter, Avery; sisters, Louise, Sally, Bernadette, and Margie (Farrell); brothers, Jim and David (Anne); many family and friends near and far and childhood best friends, Jim and Sheila Harte. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her mother and father-in-law, Mabel and James Phillips; brother-in-law, Jim Mosher; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Lahey and Evelyn Phillips, and nephew, David Lahey.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Glace Bay Hospital, 4th floor, for their amazing care and compassion in Mom’s final days. Thanks also goes out to Mom’s care team who helped guide us all through Mom’s Lewy Body dementia diagnosis.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 7, 6-8 pm, with a Celebration of Life on Thursday, August 8, at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. A limb has fallen from our family tree
That says grieve not for me.
Remember the BEST TIMES,
The laughter, the song
And good life I lived while I was STRONG.
