Obituary of Agnes Gallant Gillis

Please share a memory of Agnes to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Agnes Gillis, 83 Glace Bay, N.S. With heartfelt sadness, we regret to announce the passing of Agnes Gillis, 83, of Glace Bay. Agnes passed peacefully surrounded by family in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Agnes was the daughter of the late John Francis Gillis and Ida Gillis (Gallant), who raised their family on Highland Street in Glace Bay. Agnes is survived by her brother Aubrey Gillis, sisters Elaine Tighe and Genevieve Boudreau. Agnes also leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well her beloved cat "Mama". Agnes had many close, cherished friends who will miss her dearly. Special mention to her friend Pat MacVarish who also became her caregiver during her illness. She was predeceased by brothers Addie Gillis, Earl Gillis Raymond Gillis; sisters Anne Burns and Lynn Grenier. She was predeceased by brothers-in-law Tony Tighe, Henry Boudreau, Allie Burns, Michel Grenier, sisters-in-law Lila Gillis, and Sue Gillis. Agnes was a strong and independent woman. She was an avid reader and held a keen interest in genealogy. She spent many hours doing research and eventually created a Gillis family tree to pass along to younger generations. Agnes valued education and took immense pride in receiving her teaching degree at St F.X. University in her later years. She taught for some time for the Halifax Regional School Board. Agnes was a beautiful singer and spoke often about singing and playing guitar with her sisters growing up. She spent time at many family reunions laughing, telling stories, singing, and simply enjoying the company of her family and friends. Special thanks to the staff on 4A and the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Agnes loved quotes and here are a couple we feel would make her and others smile. "Always go to other people's funerals otherwise they won't go to yours" -Yogi Berra " I am here to serve, I am here to inspire, I am here to love, I'm here to live my truth." - Deepak Chopra Cremation has taken place.
