Obituary of Patrick Anthony Maglario
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Patrick Anthony Maglario in his 78th year, Tuesday July 2, 2024.
Born November 10, 1945, Pat lived a full and vibrant life in Sydney with Shirley (Nardocchio) Maglario, lifelong love and wife of 55 years by his side. As fate would have it, he met the girl next door at age 12. Little did he know he would marry the girl whose books he used to carry to school. They would become loving and devoted parents to two daughters, Natalie & Alison.
Those who knew him best appreciated his dry and witty sense of humor, his strong work ethic - firmly fixed at an early age being the son of an Italian immigrant - his great love of music, concerts, travelling, and the occasional black Russian. He was a family man, a man’s man, and a fighter to the end.
As a boy, Pat was very athletic and excelled at baseball, pitching no-hitters for St Theresa’s Babe Ruth League. He graduated from Sydney Academy high school and went on to attend DeVry University in Toronto. Early on, Pat would find work at General Instrument as a quality control manager. He later found a home in the automotive industry as a parts manager for Kenmount Ford and eventually went on to co-owning his own dealership, Eastland Chrysler. It was during his time at Ford, Pat had a chance encounter which sparked the idea to start a swimming pool business in Cape Breton. Eastern Olympic Pools became the family business and proudly celebrated its 50th Anniversary this year. It’s a business that he enjoyed immensely, making lifelong friends with his customers, and so many industry friends who became like family.
Pat is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (Nardocchio) Maglario, his devoted daughters, Natalie Maglario, and Alison Maglario (Curt MacDonald). He was the proud Papa to his two grandchildren, Mason and Maya Caines who will forever walk with pride in his footsteps.
He is predeceased by his parents, Sylvio Magliaro and Elizabeth(Margetti) Magliaro, sister Sylvia (Magliaro) Chiola, and brother, Eugene Magliaro and by his beloved Great Dane, Rocky.
