Louise MacDonald, 82
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with deep sorrow that we, the family of Louise MacDonald, announce her passing in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Born in Glace Bay on January 9th, 1942, Louise was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Gillis) Allison.
Louise was the head cook at St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 40 years alongside her lifelong friend Gloria MacDougall, where she took pride in providing thousands of people with healthy and nourishing meals. Her skills in the kitchen were also greatly enjoyed by her family and friends, who were always delighted to receive one of her renowned pies. Louise was truly kind and loving to all, with a knack for making friends wherever she went. She loved to laugh and always had the kettle on for whoever walked through her door, ready with a cup of tea and a good chat. She also enjoyed to Paper Tole, playing darts, and going to Bingo (especially when she was winning). A dedicated member of the community, Louise ran the Sargent’s Mess Ladies Auxiliary for many years with dear friends Margie Campbell and Clarence Sampson. A proud Hub girl, Louise enjoyed many lifelong friendships, such as the one she cherished with Wayne and Yvonne Cooper. Her affection for the girls of the Hub Club Tuesday Dart League was well known and even once health issues kept her away, the ladies would ask her to come just to visit. More than anything, Louise loved spending time with family and friends, opening her home to anyone who needed a place to stay and a shoulder to lean on.
Louise is survived by a son Raymond (Mary), two daughters: Jeannie (Terry) and Allison Lee (Bernie); granddaughters Stacey and Amanda Lee; brother Panda Allison (Connie) and sister Judy McRae (Mike); in laws Joan MacDonald, Noreen McDonald, Francis (Cathy) MacDonald, Connie MacDonald, Carol McDonald, Carrie MacKinnon, and Tina Gautier; as well many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Louise was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years James 'Jimmy'Wilfred MacDonald; brothers Johnny and George Allison; sisters Myrtle Pemberton and Rita Allison (in infancy); in laws Rolly Pemberton, Danny, Raymond, John, Ronald and Alfred.
