Obituary of Benedict (Ben) Lorenzo Legnaro

Benedict Lorenzo Legnaro, 77 Glace Bay, N.S. With shattered hearts we are saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of Benedict Lorenzo Legnaro, 77, on Monday, June 17, 2024, in the Belleville General Hospital. Born on July 22, 1946, Ben was the son of the late Ben and Lilly (Ward) Legnaro, of Glace Bay. Before retirement Ben was a coal miner and was employed with #’s 20, 26, and Lingan Mines until a severe back injury forced him to retire early. Ben spent his childhood days in Tablehead and the Hub area, and the past number of years he has been spending his summers in Ontario with his cherished grandkids. Ben was the best husband to wife Lillian of 52 years and greatest father to Benita-his pride and joy, as well as an outstanding papa to Ben and Bree. Ben was very Unique (as Lillian would call him) and was the most kind-hearted soul who would drop anything to help someone out. He loved to spend his evenings in Glace Bay at Tim Hortons talking about the good old days in the coal mines. Survived by his loving wife Lillian of 52 years; daughter Benita and son in law Brian Dean; brothers: Dave, Angelo (Gail), Michael (Laurie), Mario (Corry), and brother in law Tom Locke; sisters: Gemma (Al Lannon), Diane, and sisters in law Phyllis Currie and Marlene Stone; grandchildren Benjamin and Bree Dean; as well as many special nieces and nephews including Sean Currie and Melissa Butts who held a special place in his heart. Also left to mourn Ben are several aunts and his uncle, many cousins, and friends. Along with his parents, Ben was predeceased by sisters Rosa, Linda, and Marie. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 1-2 p.m., and a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 p.m., with Fr. Norman McPhee presiding, in T.J.
