Obituary of Colin MacDonald

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Colin (Doc) MacDonald, 69, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at his home in Baddeck with his wife by his side. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late James and Catherine (Petersen) MacDonald. Colin was retired from CBVRCE where he worked as a school bus driver for over 30 years. He made lifelong friendships with many of the students on his bus. Colin was an executive member of Victoria Branch 53 Royal Canadian Legion in Baddeck and served as Sergeant-At-Arms for a number of years. He was also a member of the Baddeck Kinsmen Club. Colin enjoyed his dart nights and a few cold Keiths. He enjoyed being on the water and his trips south in the winter. Reading and enjoying history documentaries were two of his favorite pastimes. Colin will be forever remembered for his unique and contagious laugh. Colin is survived by his wife of 17 years, Eileen Ryan; stepdaughter, Kelsey; brother, Jamie (Anne); sisters, Margie and Carmella (Ed) MacQueen; godchild, Cheryl, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Peter and Glen. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. A funeral service for Colin will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Parish, Baddeck, on Monday, June 10, at 11:00 am, Fr. Victor officiating, followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion or charity of choice. To leave words of condolence, please visit
