Obituary of Mark James MacLeod-Hillier
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Mark MacLeod-Hillier, 27, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on June 2, 2024, with his family at his side. Born in Sydney, Mark was the son of Tara MacLeod and Jamie Hillier.
Mark grew up in Sydney and Coxheath, spending as much time as he could at Nanny and Papa’s house in his early years where the treats were endless, and bedtimes didn’t exist. He made countless friends, who he loved ferociously! If you were in his circle, you were in big time.
Raised alongside his brother, Brody, and his cousins, Cody, Nathan and Owen, he fought hard to prove that he was as tough and strong as they were. He refused to let his disability win. He rode bikes and scooters and loved bonfires on his four-wheeler. Always showing his tenacious spirit and his love for his friends and family.
With his closest long-time best friend, Chelsea, at his side, he finished high school, and then spent his days surrounded by his many friends. Whether it was at the skate park with Aaron and the crew, or at home, we never knew which friends would be asleep on the floor in his room in the morning. He was an avid gamer and was so proud to show off his computer setup in his room, making even more friends in the world of online gaming. Gram will be lost without her phone tech. Mark was always there to help her when she couldn’t figure something out. Moon Stars! Mark’s Mom, brother Brody, and his sidekick, Felix the cat, will miss him forever.
A special thank you to his caregivers, who helped make his last years easier, especially Tamara and Jenna, who filled his days with love and laughter. Mark is now in Puppa Jerome’s arms. Fly high my perfect boy!
Mark is survived by his mother, Tara MacLeod; father, Jamie (Lorna) Hillier; brothers, Brody Delaney and Keagan Hillier; maternal grandmother, Linda MacLeod; paternal grandparents, Donna Hillier and Chester MacLeod; aunts and uncles, Shawn MacLeod, Donnie and Tracy Floyd, Sheri (Mike) Steele, Mike (Michelle) MacLeod; his special cousins, Cody, Nathan and Owen, and countless other family and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Jerome MacLeod.
