Mary Teresa Donahue

It is with deeply saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Teresa Donahue of Glace Bay. Mary passed peacefully Friday, May 17, 2024, after a prolonged stay in the Glace Bay Hospital.

Born in Glace Bay to parents Ronald and Alice (Bramwell) MacNeil, Mary spent her youth close to home. After graduating from Normal College in Truro, NS, Mary went on to spend the next 39 years teaching in East Bay, Gardiner Mines and New Waterford elementary schools. While she helped educate a generation of new students, Mary was also an avid bowler with the Glace Bay Women's League and enjoyed her summer vacations with family at her bungalow on the Mira River.

Mary is fondly remembered as the center of her family and for her resilience through adversity. She will be remembered by her sister Olive MacNeil, daughter-in-law Brenda (nee Donovan) Donahue, grandchildren Aaron (Kim) Donahue and Emma Donahue and great-grandson Oliver Donahue.

Mary leaves us to rejoin her parents, her husband John (Beeps) Donahue, sons Ronald and Barry Donahue and her brothers John S. and Ralph MacNeil.

A visitation will be held Friday, May 24, 2024, at 1 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 2 pm, both to be held at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists with Rev. Norman MacPhee presiding.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Townhouse, Citizen Service League, or charity of your choice.
