Robert “Razz” O’Connell, 64
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with great sadness, that we the family of Robert “Razz” O’Connell announce his passing in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Monday, May 13, 2024. Born in Glace Bay, Razz was the son of the late Joseph and Theresa (Poirier) O’Connell of Glace Bay.
Prior to his health issues, Razz was employed as a small engine repair technician. Razz had a deep sense of humour and was enjoyed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, most importantly his brothers and sisters whom he loved spending time with. He was a die-hard Boston Bruins fan and loved a good game of darts, as well as a nice cold beer. Razz loved his summer days going down to the reef with his dad and brothers, which never made him a champion diver (belly flappers); he also loved going
to Dominion Beach and admiring the sounds of the ocean.
As per Razz’s wishes tissue donation has taken place, and his Cornea’s will give sight to someone in need.
Razz is survived by a son Matthew (Sarah); brothers: Michael (Soonah), Gerry, and David (Linda); sisters: Linda Magliaro (Charlie), Gail Jackman (Wally), Diane McDonald (Darrell), Joan Jenkins (Freeman), and Ann O’Connell Watkins; two grandchildren: Summer and Selena; he will be deeply missed by his companion Frances Currie, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Razz will also be greatly missed by his cousin Rose O’Connell, his best friend Frankie Frison and godson Jamie McDonald.
Along with his parents Joseph and Theresa, Razz was predeceased by a daughter Katelin, and a brother Albert.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 3-5 p.m. in Reserve Mines Pensioners Hall, Main St., Reserve Mines.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, or the Glace Bay Food Bank.
A special thank you to Cape Breton Regional Hospital staff in the ER, ICU, and Palliative Care Units.
