Obituary of Georgina Jackson

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our sweet mother, Georgina Jackson, 91, of Sydney River, NS, on April 8, 2024. Born in Whitney Pier, she was the daughter of Ernest and Lily (Bapty) Yates . Georgina was an active member of St. Mark’s Parish, Coxheath, for many years, teaching Sunday School, sharing her beautiful voice with fellow members of the church, and serving as Vice President of the Anglican Church Women. Surviving breast cancer, she devoted her time to helping others living with cancer as well as other breast cancer survivors like herself, listening and lending a hand to give comfort, while volunteering for Reach to Recovery at the CB Regional Oncology Dept. She was a longtime member of “ The Pier Girls” maintaining friendships for over 80 years. Her love of travel over the years with her family built long lasting memories that will be cherished forever. Her positive outlook on life and pleasant personality made her a friend to all. Georgina is survived by her sons; Ralph (Teresa), Halifax, Alan (Michele), Coxheath; daughters, Janice, Halifax, Barbara (Weldon), Pictou Co.; granddaughter, Natasha, Halifax; grandsons, Stephen, Halifax, Adam, Scott and Nick, Alberta, Logan and Kyle, Pictou Co., and numerous great grandchildren as well . Besides her parents, Georgina was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Carl Jackson; daughter, Sandra Irene Jackson; brothers, Ernest and Edward Yates, and sisters Edna Chipman and Lily MacLeod . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and Canadian Heart Society . Special thanks to all who shared their compassion and caring ways with mom, we greatly appreciate it . Funeral arrangements have entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday, April 15, 2024, 11 – 1 pm followed by funeral service at 1, Rev. Peter Refuse officiating.
