Obituary of Georgette Marie Skinner

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Georgette Marie (Gallant) Skinner, 78, of Westmount, Nova Scotia. Georgette passed on Saturday, March 30, in Sydney NS, after spending her last days surrounded by her family. Georgette was born and raised in East Margaree, NS, to Nellie (LeBlanc) and Lubin Gallant on February 22, 1946. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and Godmother. She will be forever missed by her children, Roy (Danielle) of Dartmouth, Carla (Greg), Robbie, and David (Irene), all of Ottawa. She adored her seven grandchildren, Grace, Dane, Brady, Sydney, Cadence, Sawyer and Wyatt. They will miss her and hold tight to the many amazing memories she made with them. Georgette will also be missed and remembered by her four siblings, Isidore (Patricia) Gallant, Rosita (Norman) Gillis, Roger (Monique) Gallant and Alfred (Marlene) Gallant. Her many nieces and nephews also held a special place in her heart. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years, Robert Skinner. It is a comfort to the family that they will be reunited in heaven. Georgette lived a full life. She worked a rewarding career as a teacher, giving more than 25 years of service to the students of the CBVRCE. Georgette loved playing card games and scrabble with her family. She lived a life of service and was a valued volunteer in the Holy Rosary Church community. She was a member of the choir and a President of the Catholic Women’s League. She was always caring for others and willing to lend a helping hand (and bake) for anyone in need. She enjoyed the time she shared with friends, generously donating her time and talents to the Loaves and Fishes Community Kitchen. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the An Cala Palliative Care team at the CB Regional Hospital for their kindness and care during a difficult time. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, N.S., 902-539-7175. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Westmount, NS, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am, Fr Doug Murphy officiating. Interment in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Georgette’s memory to the Loaves and Fishes Community Kitchen.
