John David Steele

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David ‘Squeaks’ Steele, age 79, on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Taigh Na Mara.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Michael and Christina (Brown) Steele.
David was a backyard mechanic. He spent a lot of time at Marsh’s garage in Reserve Mines. He loved cars and trucks and seemed to know everything about them. David enjoyed walking, often you could see him walking from Glace Bay to the airport and back again. David enjoyed a good game of darts, and he played in Tower Road. Uncle David was well loved by many nieces and nephews. He was so easy to please. He will be missed greatly.
David is survived by his sister, Kaye Ford; brother-in-law, Erville Stubbard Sr. as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Michael (Sharon), Dougie; sisters, Billie, Veronica (Tommy) Trainor, Anne (Larry) Wishlow, Gertie (Ernie) Polegato, Norma (John) Nother.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 11 to 12 p.m. with a memorial service follow at 12 p.m. at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Glace Bay Food Bank.
