John William Pittman
February 17, 1942 – March 5, 2024
It is with saddened hearts; John left this world with his loving family by his side. Born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, whereas a young man he fished for many years. At the age of 19, John joined the Princess Patricia Canadian Light infantry and was stationed in Victoria, B.C. He felt a strong connection to Vancouver Island. In 1967, he made his way back to British Columbia with his family soon to follow. John spent many years working in the logging industry. An avid fisherman at heart, he always made his way back to the ocean. When john retired, he moved back to Glace Bay, to work with his brother Bruce in the family business, Pittman’s Lobster.
John loved a good party, where he could play his guitar and sing with many friends, He was always up for a good game of darts with friends on the weekends.
John is survived by his children John William Jr. and Edward Lee (Jody); grandchildren, Brandy Lee, Gregory, Zachry; great granddaughter Rose. He is also survived by his brothers, Rick (Norma) and Bruce (Hilda); sister Linda Joy (Bill); sister-in-law, Ada as well as many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents, John and Etta Mae Pittman, sisters Mary, Lee Ann and brother Greg.
As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Cremation has taken place. The family would like to express our gratitude to the many professionals that have assisted John throughout the course of his illness. Including the nursing staff at CBRH Palliative Care Unit, 4th floor especially Linda Murphy and Dr. D’Intino, as well as VON and the Homecare staff.
The family would like to also acknowledge the kindness and support of John’s neighbors and good friends Tim and Susan. We cannot express our gratitude for all you have done for John.
So let’s raise a glass, until we meet again, Cheers! As John would say ‘Don’t take any wooden nickels.”
