Sheila Anne (Roope) Rhys
Age 57
The family is deeply saddened to share the news of Sheila’s passing on January 18, 2018 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born on October 1, 1960 and raised in Digby, where she spent the majority of her holiday time unless, of course, she, her sisters and niece were travelling to the United States on a shopping adventure. Sheila was employed with Halifax Harbour Bridges in an accounting role for nearly the past decade, following her previous employment with Seaboard Transport. Her passion was to always remain busy – focusing on family, gardening with her Dad, league bowling, arts and crafts and recently, she joined a camera club to master digital photography. One of her most rewarding experiences was her time spent volunteering with Scouts Canada in the 90’s – counseling youth on outdoor skills, communication, time management, team work and the like. Besides her parents, John and Ruth (Murley) Roope, Sheila is survived by her husband, Ken, of 18 years; step-daughters, Kelly (Rob Ubdegrove), Audra (Trevor Mosher); step-son, Michael (Mandy Brown); sisters, Joanne Longmire (Tom Courtney) and Stephanie Roope (Tim Mullen); brother-in-law, Aubrey (Bonnie) Rhys and sister-in-law, Carol (Gordon) Campbell. Sheila cherished her grandchildren -Logan, Keira, Kaitlyn and Ronan, as well as her niece, Brooklynn, all of whom she enjoyed spending quality time with. In addition, Sheila leaves behind a number of adult nieces and nephews – Kim, Melissa, Amanda, Allyson, Adam and Bryan, as well as Uncle Bruce (Rose), Uncle John and Aunt Doris, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Thanks to the medical staff at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, and particularly, the Dartmouth General Hospital staff for their ongoing compassion and professional care of Sheila during the last several weeks of her illness. To Sheila’s co-workers – a very special thank you for your continuous support and frequent visits, which comforted Sheila and brightened each and every day. Cremation has been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Crematorium, Bedford, with a private service to be held in Digby at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to any Neurological Health Charity in Canada or other charity of choice.
