Obituary of Jurgen Thomas MacDonald
It is with profound sadness that the family announces Tom's sudden passing, at home, in Sydney River, on January 28, 2024, in his 76th year.
Born February 15, 1947, in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, he was the son of the late Tom and Agnes MacDonald.
Tom served Canada as a proud member of the RCMP, from 1967 to 1991, and had postings in Saskatchewan, Newfoundland & Labrador, and Ontario.
Tom was a devoted father and a very proud Papa who spent much of his time with his precious daughter and grandchildren. He was very proud of all of their accomplishments and especially loved to watch all three of them playing sports. He had much wisdom to share, along with a lot of encouragement and a lot of teasing along the way. He spent many hours in the rink, and over the years had developed quite a following for his hockey videos on YouTube.
Tom loved to meet and chat with new people, bringing a smile to those whose paths he crossed with his quick wit and friendly demeanor. He never missed an opportunity to make a new friend. Tom started the famous CapeBreton.com blog which later became "Cape Breton Fireside Forum Memories" Facebook group, boasting nearly 16K members, where he created a welcoming space for local and Capers abroad to come together in the warm spirit of our Island.
Tom loved to listen to old time Rock & Roll and is finally reunited with his favorite dance partner, Francie.
Tom is survived by his loving daughter, "Trout" Carolyn (Brent) MacKinnon of Sydney River and beloved grandchildren, Alex, Julia, and Ryan, brother Raymond MacDonald of Sydney, and niece, Mandy MacDonald of Fort McMurray.
Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by the love of his life, wife, Frances Cecelia MacDonald (McNeil) in 2016 and his nephew, Scott MacDonald in 2018.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, N.S., 902-539-7175. A private family service will take place at a later date.
Donations in Tom's memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
