Obituary of Deborah Ann Fines

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Deborah Ann Fines, 65, of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Debbie was born May 1, 1958 in East York, Ontario and passed surrounded by her family on January 31, 2024. She will be deeply missed by her three sons, Mark Pelham (Beth), Lee Pelham (Ashley), and Scott Pelham (Rachel), grandchildren Hattie, Casey, and Edie, as well as her two sisters, Donna Henry (Kevin) and Doreen Fines (Erroll), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Debbie was predeceased by her parents, Herberta and Richard Fines. Debbie was small but mighty on the baseball field and in the bowling lane. She was proud of her work with the Federal Government, where she spent 20 years. Debbie was an avid reader and was the first to offer a good book recommendation. Debbie was deeply proud of her sons and devoted her life to raising them. She was always supportive, encouraging, loving, and kind. She spent countless hours cheering them on at baseball diamonds and in hockey rinks. She was well known for having at least one or two extra neighbourhood children at her lunch or supper table. She loved visiting with her sisters and their chats on the phone. In recent years, Debbie shifted her focus and care to her parents, supporting them through their retirement and end of life, and to her grandchildren. Her favourite activities involved spending time on the floor colouring, playing cards, and building toys with Hattie, Casey and Edie. Her family was her greatest joy. A special thanks to Debbie’s oncology team at the Victoria General and the night shift at the QEII Emergency department who assisted with her passing. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday February 7, 2024, between 4pm-7pm, in T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
