Obituary of James Richard Vickers

James Richard Vickers, 57, of Surrey, B.C. passed away January 23, 2024 at Halifax Hospice. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of Carol and Dale Vickers. He is survived by his mother, Carol Vickers and step-father, “Poppy” John MacNeil, sister Denise Vickers, brother Ross (Leah) Vickers, son Tylor Vickers and daughter Sheena Brewer. He is also survived by his three step-brothers, Jason, Scott and Chris MacNeil along with many beloved nieces and nephews and life-long best friends George Pink and Jimmy MacNeil. Richard shared a very special bond with his nieces Akira and Karli. He is also survived by paternal aunts Melanie Johnston and Faye Gardner along with maternal aunts and uncles Sister Joan Walker, Kay Walker, Jean Walker, Betty (Brad) Graham, Norma (Lou) Marsh, Kenny (Heidi) Walker, Gordie (Barb) Walker, Donnie (Sandra) Walker, Victoria (Jimmy) Taylor, Gerard (Susan) Walker, Pius (Deborah) Walker, and Greg (Joanne) Walker. Richard worked in construction and besides his family and friends he loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He also was gifted his green thumb from his grandfather Wes. One of Richard’s proudest accomplishments was his dedication to AA and the many friends he met and helped. Richard was pre-deceased by his father Sidney Dale Vickers, maternal grandparents Genevieve and George Walker and paternal grandparents Amelia and Wes Vickers, maternal aunts and uncles Helene (John) MacLellan, Gilbert and Gloria Walker, Ann and Bob Larade, Vince Walker, Leonard Walker, Sheldon (Liz and Babs) Walker, Charles Richard Walker, James Adrian Walker, his paternal uncle Howie Campbell and cousins Bruce Walker, Steven Walker. The family would like send a special thank you to the entire staff at Halifax Hospice for the great care they showed him and our family during the last few months. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in his name to Halifax Hospice. A private mass and celebration of life will be held at a later time.
