Obituary of Murray Donald MacLeod

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Murray ‘Red’ Donald MacLeod, on Saturday, January 20, 2024, age 75, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with family and friends by his side. Red was the son of the late Allan and Jean (MacIntosh) MacLeod. Born and raised in Sydney, he worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken in his early years where he met his one love - Deborah MacLeod who lovingly took care of him for 43 years. Debbie passed away just 4 months prior to Red, and while it’s hard for our family to lose them so close together, we are thankful they are both at peace and together again. Red worked at Tim Hortons for many years and then Citizenship and Immigration Canada until his retirement in 2014. He leaves behind his son, Allan (Emily) and two grandchildren, Nora and Cohen; brothers, Arnie and Mervin MacLeod; nephew and close friend, Billy Swain, and many other nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Red was predeceased by his wife, Deborah, brother, Lynn MacLeod, and sister, Etta Swain (MacLeod). Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, (902) 539-7175. Graveside service will take place at a later date at St. James Cemetery, Big Bras d’Or. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Special Thank You to all the doctors and nurses on unit 4B of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who cared for Red with empathy over the past few challenging months.
