Peter Christiansen
Gardiner Mines
It is with a heavy heart that we the family regret to announce the passing of our loving dad, opa and great-opa, brother and friend, Peter Christiansen, age 70, on January 16, 2024, in the QE11 Health Science Centre, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Edward and Ella (Lundius) Christiansen.
Dad spent most of his life working on the family farm in Gardiner Mines. Upon retiring from farming, he joined the local labour union 1115, where he spent many years in the construction industry. Dad loved to work with his hands, always building and fixing anything for anyone. He truly was a jack of all trades.
Dad enjoyed watching his boys achieve their life goals they set for themselves. He left a significant impact on all our lives, teaching us the most useful skills we use today.
Dad was known as ‘Opa’ to his grandchildren and ‘Big Peter’ to everyone else.
Peter was the kindest man and would help any one in need, he truly was a gentle giant. He could often be found on his four-wheeler heading to chat with the boys at A &P or his best friend, George Martin. Dad’s favorite pastime lately was having a cold beer after a long day mowing the grass.
Peter is survived by his four loving sons, Ricky (Amanda), Peter Shannon (Florance), Eric (Aleah) and Aaron (Jillian); his six grandchildren, Tommy, Kristen, R.J. Peter Owen, Chris, Haven and a grandson due in March; four precious greatgrandchildren, Aria, Sophia, Natalya, Kashtyn and one on the way.
Peter is also survived by his brothers, Eddie (Debbie) and Jens; sister, Erika; sister-in-law, Frances; brother-in-law, Morley; mothers of his children, Judy Christiansen, and Kim Cormier. Dad loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own children and they loved him unconditionally.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Monika, brother, Christian and sister-in-law Claire.
In keeping with dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Gardiner Mines Community Hall, 6429 Seaside Drive, Gardiner Mines.
