Obituary of Rita Marie Hinchey

Rita Marie (Scott)Hinchey, 72 Scotchtown/Sydney It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend Rita Hinchey in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Saturday, January 13, 2024, with her children, Cindy, and Michael by her side. Born and raised in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Carmelita (Doucette) Scott. In her early years while residing in Scotchtown, Rita was a proud Block Parent for many years, loving each child who arrived at the door. She could be found walking the isles of Giant Tiger and Walmart with the biggest smile and later going for a treat before heading back home, mom was a funny lady with a deep sense of humour. Rita was a huge music fan, particularly Elvis. Her greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren who brought her tremendous happiness. Rita is survived by her daughter and best friend, Cindy (Terry) Power, Sydney; son, (the favorite) Michael MacKenzie (Keshia), Glace Bay; her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Kristopher Power (Hannah) and Ollie MacKenzie and a great granddaughter on the way. She was also survived by a close family friend, Tracy Campbell, her siblings, several nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her spouses, William MacKenzie and Beansie Hinchey, as well as several siblings. Cremation has taken place. As per her wishes there will be no visitation or service. Our family would like to thank the team on the Palliative Care Unit for their care and compassion, and the caretakers (Iter and Sonal) who sat with her and kept her company during her stay in the hospital.
