John Harold MacDonald Mira Gut It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of Harold MacDonald, age 65 at home on December 27, 2018. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Joseph and Miriam (MacGillivary) MacDonald and Georgina and Jack McCann. He was employed in the finance department with Cape Breton Development Corporation for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed a good game of poker with his friends, travelling, and walking the beaches in Mira with his three pals, Monty, Anauq and Sammy. He enjoyed many nights with a fire in the backyard and most of all enjoyed spending time with his close family and many friends. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Cathy McKinlay; children, Joseph (Jenny) MacDonald, Halifax, Krista MacDonald (Fred), Glace Bay; five precious grandchildren, Brett, T.J., Brooke, Bryce and Braxton. He is also survived by brothers, Gordie (Sue) Gosse, Grayson (Cheryl) McCann; sisters, Claire (Ed) Craig, Elaine (Mike) Roberts, Maureen Morrissey; mother-in-law, Joan McKinlay; sister-in-law, Lindsay McKinlay, (Bruce); brothers-in-law, Brian (Morah) McKinlay, Glenn (Kathleen) McKinlay; many very special cousins, nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews who always had a special place in his heart. His three fur babies, Anauq, Monty and Sammy will dearly miss him. Harold was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Miriam MacDonald, Georgina and Jack McCann; bother-in-law, John Morrissey; niece, Janet Morrissey and father-in-law, Gerald McKinlay. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2018 with Rev. Allan MacLellan officiating at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. (902-849-4199). Reception to follow. Donations may be made to the Local Food Bank, S.P.C.A or a charity of choice.
