Obituary of Josephine (Duba) Delores MacKay

Josephine (Duba) Delores MacKay, 61 Glace Bay Josephine (Duba) Delores MacKay, 61, of Glace Bay, passed away January 3, 2024, at Sydney Hospice surrounded by family. Born in Glace Bay, NS, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Ignatius Donovan and Sarah Ann (MacGillivray) Donovan. Duba was loved and lived her life to help others. She took care of her parents and sister and was always concerned for the wellbeing of others. Duba worked at Jay’s Drive-In and made many friends during her 10 years in the kitchen. She loved her fur babies over the years, and we know they were waiting for her with her parents when she passed. Duba enjoyed Bingo and was lucky at the game. She like to tell stories and seemed to know everything, aptly nicknamed “Anne Landers.” Survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Daniel MacKay. Siblings Donnie (Marilyn) Donovan, Eia (Bart) Boutilier, Bobby (Mary) Donovan, Karen (Cecil) MacNeil, Brenda (John) Poirier, Linda (Gordon Murphy) Donovan. Brothers and sisters-in-law Tommy (Charlotte), Kevin (Wanda), Charlie, Steven, Mikey, Neily Mac Kay, Celia (Alonzo), Donelda (Jim), Shirley (Donnie), Ainey, Dorothy, Doreen, Roseanne MacKay, and Butch (Yvonne) Clarke, sister by choice Darlene Donovan and her daughter Kerianne Kostner; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Sadie Donovan, sister Margie Donovan, nephew Jamie Boutilier, Cousin Lawrence Horne. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cape Breton Hospice, An Cala Palliative Care Unit or the Cancer Society. “Not all Angels have wings, some have Stethoscopes.” Duba’s family would like to thank the incredible staff at both palliative care and Cape Breton Hospice for the loving care and respect which was shown to Duba, and her family; Dr. Dentino, Dr. Kelly and so many other wonderful caregivers, you all went above and beyond.
