Obituary of Jean Rae

It is with heavy hearts, we the family announce that Jean McLymont Rae, age 93, of Spryfield, N.S. went home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2023, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Uphall Station, West Lothian, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Meek. Upon completing High School, she trained as a Ladies Tailor and Kilt Maker and worked in her profession until she married the love of her life in 1951. In 1956, she and Jack and their two young sons, left Scotland to begin a new life in Canada. Together, in the early years, Jack and Jean established a marine business in which she was actively involved until the time of her passing. A strong woman of faith, she was devoted to living out the truth of the Gospel. Over the years many were touched by her love and generosity. She was a loving and devoted wife and an exceptional mother to her five children. Besides her role in the family business, she was a busy home maker who enjoyed knitting, sewing, and interior decorating. Visitors to the family home in Spryfield or the summer residence in Indian Point were greeted with her welcoming hospitality. She was famous for her homemade brownies that were offered with “a wee cup o’tea”. She loved life and laughter. Her unique sense of humour and wit were two of her many strengths. She knew how to endure difficult times because she knew her help came from the Lord. (Psalm 121:1-2) To her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren she leaves behind a legacy of faith and love. Jean is survived by her sons, John (Judy), Andrew (Karen), and George (Angela) as well as daughters, Sandra (Robert) Pattison and Jacqueline. She is also survived by grandchildren, Rachel (Chris), Matthew (Natalie), Nathan (Carrie), Jared (Christine), Andy, Jamie, Tara, Daniel (Laura), Emily (Glen), George (Jayme), Sam (Kirstin) and Lindsay. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Captain Andrew J. Rae and by all of her siblings. There will be no visitation and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Street Connection (www.street.ns.ca). The family would like to thank the medical staff of the QEII Health Sciences Centre unit 8.2 for their care and compassion. When peace like a river attendeth my way.
