Allan Joseph McNeil Sydney “The “Wool” from Tanglewood Subdivision, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the community, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after bravely facing a brief battle with cancer on December 16th, 2023. Born on August 23, 1946, in Reserve Mines, Allan's life was marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering passion for family and golf. Allan leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Patsy McNeil (Tanglewood); daughters, Allison (Trent) Wilson of New Glasgow, and Janet-Lynn (Colin) Huntington of Tantallon. His adoring grandchildren, Gavin, Landon, Beckham, Marion, and Myra-Lynn were a constant source of joy and pride for him. Allan is also remembered fondly and with love by his siblings, Sister Marion McNeil, Elaine (Hayes) MacNeil, Eleanor (Tommy) Murphy, Leonard (Anne) McNeil, Gerald 'Jake' McNeil, and numerous nieces and nephews. He also was loved by his in-laws Winnie Chisholm (Halifax), Johnny and Sandra Kehoe (Reserve Mines) Marguerite and R.J. Bartol (Virginia) and Barry Ogley of Glace Bay. He will be remembered by all the “golf boys” from Reserve Mines, Glace Bay, New Waterford, and Sydney. Too many to name, all the “boys” should know that some of Dad’s greatest memories were made with all of you. He was predeceased by his parents, Violet and Alex McNeil. Allan's dedication to his family was immeasurable. He took immense pleasure in witnessing his grandchildren excel in their sporting pursuits, providing unwavering support and love throughout their endeavours. His profound love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and sons-in-law will remain eternally cherished. A passionate golfer, Allan's love for the sport was undeniable. He found solace and joy on the golf course, even continuing to play golf a few days after his diagnosis. His golf companions and the serene greens at Lingan and Florida were sources of immense happiness and camaraderie for him. Allan Joseph McNeil will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his passion for golf, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2024, from 10- 11 a.m. with a celebration of life at 11 a.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding, with a reception to follow all taking place at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199) Donations in memory of Allan can be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation- Palliative Care Fund or a charity of choice.
