Obituary of Mary Alexandra (Sandra) Ferguson

Mary Alexandra (Sandra) Ferguson, 78 Glace Bay, NS Mary Alexandra (Sandra) Ferguson, 78, of Glace Bay, passed away December 18, 2023, in Harbourstone, Sydney. Born June 6, 1945, in Sydney Mines and raised in Southside Boularderie, she was the daughter of Francis and Margaret MacMullin. Sandra started her working career at Lynch’s Bakery in Sydney where she met the love of her life, Wilfred. After staying home for several years to raise their family, she returned to the workforce and ultimately retired from MacLeod-Lorway Insurance (formerly MacKenzie Insurance) in 2008. Our Nana was devoted to her family. She was an accomplished knitter and made many beautiful sweaters and Christmas socks over the years. Christmas was one of her favourite times of year and her cherry cake was always a delicious treat at holiday time. Sandra is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Wilfred; children Glenn (Wilma), Anita MacKinnon (Robin) and Nancy Fraser (Greg); grandchildren Colin (Janet), Jordan, Alexandra, and Rylan; and great-grandchildren Nicole, Michelle, and Sophie. She is also survived by her brother James (Beverly); best friend Elaine (Gualbert); sisters-in-law Myrna Crowdis and Shirley Ferguson; several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Francis and Margaret MacMullin; also, brothers-in-law Wally Crowdis and Eddie Ferguson. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at St. Anne’s Church in Glace Bay on Friday, December 22, 2023, at 10 a.m. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Alzheimer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
