So sorry to hear of Susie’s passing. I had the pleasure of teaching her at Riverview and enjoyed meeting her at different times after her graduation. She always had a smile and I never saw her any other way. She lifted my spirit many times with her up beat personality. May you find comfort in knowing she touched many lives. May she rest in peace. My sincere condolences to Susie’s family. I first met Susie when she was about 3 years old and a patient at the IWK where I was working. Susie would sit on her little trolley and scoot around the ward so fast you had to be on your toes to prevent a collision (which never happened because she was a great driver). Her family lived near my cousin so I would see her on the street in her wheelchair. I kept tabs on from my cousin. In the more recent years I met her on many occasions both of us working to make our city safer and more accessible. I was saddened to hear of her death, she fought for so long and accomplished so much in her short life. We will all miss her.

I’ve known Susie since I moved to CB in grade 4 at Coxheath Elem. School. I reflect back to how difficult it was for her family to carry her wheelchair up all the stairs of the school for there was not ONE “accessible” part of that building:(
She couldn’t participate in PE class cause it was in the basement… was this real life? How far we have come as a society and Susie, who was charging the way, advocating for change her whole life❤️The word is a better place because she was here. I have had the pleasure to met a person who lived life fully and without excuses and whose heart was bigger than most…she gave so much to everyone she met. I’m deeply saddened to hear of her passing. Rest in peace beautiful soul❤️

I first met Susie when just a young toddler in the Pediatric ward of Sydney City Hospital where I was a nurse. You got to love Sue the moment you met her, her sweet smile and disposition. Later years I founded the C.B. Chapter of Spine Bifida and Hydrocephalus Assn. with the assistance of several parents,Sue’s parents among them. This was a long and lasting friendship with the Burke family as we all worked together to raise funds and create awareness of Spina Bifida. I am very sad today to hear of Susie’s passing. My heart goes out to all the family, friends and so many who knew Sue on Facebook where I was able to keep in touch with her.

I was so saddened to hear from my cousin, the passing of Miss Susie. It seems just yesterday she and my sister Lora, were giggling teens. Despite their physical challenges you would never meet two women more present in life. They laughed with their whole bodies and loved with the biggest hearts. Susie, always thoughtful and considerate, never missed wishing me a happy birthday via messenger. Our family left CB in ‘96, so it’s been many years since we’ve seen her, and yet she reached out. What a bright light she brought into this world, and although she will be dearly missed by family and friends, she has left the world a brighter place. The Marcoux-Tynski family send our heartfelt condolences. Fly in peace, sweet one.

My condolences to all of Suzie’s family and extended family. She was truly a “community voice”, always letting me know what was happening within the family and community, and extending birthday wishes and greetings. While living in Halifax, I would hear her on CTV Morning Live, giving a very professional voice to community events. She always made me feel still part
of the family. Rest in peace with mom and dad Suzie.

Susan was a friend of my daughter’s, so I have known her for many years. When she was working at the Cove Guest Home, we would chat when I delivered meds from the pharmacy after work. One time I had my two grandsons with me, ages about 4 and 5. They were very curious about why she was in her wheelchair. Susan explained that she she couldn’t walk, and she was that way because that was how God made her. A great lesson, sweetly delivered….. that was Susan.
