Obituary of Shirley Elizabeth Wilkie

Shirley Elizabeth Wilkie, 83 Glace Bay, N.S. It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the death of our mom Shirley, on Thursday, November 30, 2023, in Hospice Cape Breton. Born in Glace Bay, Shirley was the daughter of the late Mary (Mugford) and John Joe McNeil. Mom was a housewife and raised three children with her husband Jackie. She lived in Montreal with her young family for 15 years before returning to Cape Breton to live her life in Lingan, within the home that our dad had built. Later, when her children had grown, mom worked at Glace Bay High School in housekeeping for ten years. Eventually mom returned to live her senior years in Glace Bay. Mom was always excited to have her grandchildren Ryan and Tyler visit from Toronto, they brought her so much joy, and she looked forward to spoiling them with gifts when they came. Mom’s favorite past-time was enjoying an evening of bingo and spending her winnings shopping for new décor and furniture for her home that she kept beautiful and immaculate. Our hearts are broken, and we are going to miss her so much. Shirley is survived by sons: Johnny (Yan) and Jimmy; daughter Shelley; brother Norm; sisters: Tony, and Mary,; grandchildren: Ryan and Tyler, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Along with her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband Jackie, stepfather Donald Mugford, brother’s Johnny, Mike and Donald, sister’s Diane, and Barbara. Special thank you to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Glace Bay General Hospital, North Sydney Rehabilitation, Palliative Care CBRH, and Hospice Cape Breton, for the care given to our mom throughout her illness, we truly do appreciate each one of you. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, December 11,2023 from 12- 1 pm, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 pm, all in Tracey’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
