Obituary of Cyril Alfred Pottie

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Cyril Alfred Pottie, 75, of Mount Uniacke on November 24, 2023. Born in L’Ardoise, Richmond County, he was the son of Henry R. and Rebecca (Bona) Pottie.
Cyril is survived by his daughters; Susan and Debbie (Joe) Brigley; sister, Bernadette (Weldon Crawford) Duffy; stepchildren, Helen Jollimore, Ernie Stacey, Madeleine Stacey, Marion Gates and Peggy Gates; grandsons Matthew and Terry; sister-in-law, Sarah Pottie; niece, Elizabeth Sampson, (whom he always referred to as his sister), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cyril loved working outdoors; he enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter. He had a gift for gardening and kept his yard meticulous. Cyril was a longshoreman with the Halifax Longshoremen’s Association, Local 269, retiring in September, 2013.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Margaret Frances (Stacey); daughter, Juanita; sisters, Evangeline Hanson, Roseanne Grant, Virginia Sampson, Mary Pottie; brothers, Robert and William; and stepson Gerry Stacey.
A very special thank you to his neighbours, Joy and Keith Moulton and their daughter, Crystal, for all the kindness and caring they showed to Cyril, especially for looking after his animals whenever needed.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Bedford, NS, 902-835-4212. There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, November 30, at 11 am, in St. Paul’s United Church, 293 Etter Road, Mount Uniacke.
