Wilfred Ivan Mailman, 78
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Wilfred Ivan Mailman, on Sunday, November 19, 2023. Born in Liscombe Guysborough County on August 2, 1945, to the late Ellsworth and Ada Mailman.
After moving to Cape Breton with his parents in childhood, Wilfred, made his home in Main-a-Dieu and later in Glace Bay. He spent most of his working years as chief engineer for National Seafoods in Louisbourg. Wilfred was a wonderful carpenter and cabinet maker, and in his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved a good game of Cribbage and Crazy Eights, and every Louis L’amor Book he could read. He liked to watch Oak Island (and coming to his own conclusions) and discussing his genealogy with anyone who would lend an ear.
Wilfred is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn (Fukala); children: Joette (Jason) McCauley, Comeauville, N.S., Bradley (Chantal), Darrell, and Wilfred, all of Glace Bay; grandchildren: Phillip and Jocelyn McCauley, Erin, Lindsay, and Liam Mailman, Stephen, and Rebecca Mailman, Cassandra, Kyle, and Rebecca Mailman; as well as 6 great-grandchildren. Wilfred is also survived by sisters: Louise Baggs, Gert Moore, Ivy Wadden, and Martha Timmons, and several nieces and nephews.
Always a kind and gentle man, he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Along with his parents, Wilfred was predeceased by sister’s Hilda Rudolph, Sheila McMillan, Dorothy Hemsley, and Rose Gledhill; brother’s: Harvey, Albert, Lawrence, and Francis.
A huge thank you to Dr. Colesmith and the staff at Miner’s Memorial Manor in Sydney Mines, where he met new friends and was cared for with much kindness and affection.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Association of Nova Scotia/Miner’s Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, N.S.
