Obituary of Lorraine Mae Ferguson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Mae Ferguson, 87, of Sydney, NS, on November 14, 2023, at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Halifax, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Lester and Lillian ( Gates ) Dares.
Lorraine was a dedicated member of Brookshaven Recreation Association, Prime Brook, and was the former UCW President of the United Church Women - United Protestant Church of Sydney River, just to name a of few of the organizations Lorraine belonged to. Her zest for life, strong will and willingness to lend a helping hand to those who needed it are the good stuff that Lorraine was made of. Her love of camping in her early years, music, fun with friends, and a good square dance brought her much joy .
Lorraine is survived by her son, Weldon (Barbara) Ferguson, Pictou County; daughter, Barbara (Warren) MacMullin, Sydney Forks; her Sweet Brandy/Bran (James), Calgary; daughter-in-law, Lois (late John); brothers, William/Bill (Ann) Dares Westmount, and Dennis/Denny (Marie) Dares, Marion Bridge. Also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren living in Australia, Calgary, Halifax, New Glasgow, and Sydney .
Besides her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, Neil John Ferguson, son, John Neil Ferguson, and great-grandson, Neil Ferguson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. Visitation will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday, November 22, from 1-2 p.m., with a service following at 2 p.m. in the Chapel, Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating.
