Obituary of Harold Thomas Delaney

Harold Delaney Sydney, N.S. It is with broken hearts; we announce the passing of Harold Delaney on October 20 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was born in Sydney to the late Edward and Ella (Fillmore) Delaney. Harold was employed with the school bus garage for 45 years. He also spent many years in harness racing as an owner, trainer, and driver. After retirement he was always busy going for drives, repairing anything he thought needed fixing, but his favourite past time was entertaining his grandchildren. Harold is survived by his daughters: Brenda (Danny) St. John, Karen (John) Hawco; two sons: Dougie (Paulette), Gary(Beatrice); brothers Greg (Avril), Arthur (Kathy), B.C., and a sister Trudy (The late Richard Duchemin); also left to mourn their Papa are grandchildren: Tara, Christopher, Cheryl, Aaron, Brittany, Ali, Taylor, Ryley, Kortney, Kaysen and Mckenna; 10 great grandchildren; Harold is also survived by his in-laws Evelyn Timmons, Faye MacLeod, Elaine Macleod, Greg Keigan, and Lorraine Delaney and many nieces and nephews especially special nephew Scott. Along with his wife Norma Keigan, Harold was predeceased by a daughter Cheryl, brother Lawrence and sisters, Ila MacEachern, and Beverly Veldhuis. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on October 25, 2023, at Spanish River Hall, Sydney River. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
